The Housatonic Museum of Art is partnering with the Thomas Merton Family Center, a cornerstone of hope and support in the Bridgeport community, to celebrate its 50th Anniversary Celebration.

In this exhibition, the artist Iyaba Ibo Mandingo tells the story of the Afri-Caribbean migration to Europe and North America in the twentieth century through his paintings and sculptures.

Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, the student artists in this exhibition have surmounted many obstacles to envision their future with the help of their family, friends, and mentors.

This exhibition provides visitors with a nuanced understanding of Walter Iooss’ contributions through nine thematic sections, such as: Athletes as Activists, Playing Living color, When the Movement Stops, One Second of Greatness, and Lonely at the Top.

The exhibition features the artwork of Kim Weston, an Afro-Indigenous artist whose long exposure photographs at powwows invites her ancestors’ spirits to reveal themselves in the image.

Visitors often exclaim that the Housatonic Museum of Art is a "hidden gem" -- a world-class art collection within a community college in Bridgeport, CT. They marvel at the quality and quantity of works on view, as the HMA proudly displays its collection throughout the CT State Housatonic Campus. In this special exhibition, new and returning visitors have the opportunity to experience highlights from HMA in one place.

The show features artwork by local student artists and their mentors, Robert Stone and Tyese Williams. Over the course of six months, the students met regularly with their mentors and other artists including Alicia Cobb and Kristy Paz to develop their artistic voices.
