Conversations with the Ancestors
by Ramon Peralta
Second Floor, Beacon Hall, CT State Housatonic (900 Lafayette Blvd.)
Ramon Peralta was born in NYC to Dominican-born parents who have always encouraged him to pursue his deep love for art. From an early age, he dreamt of becoming an artist, captivated by the power of visual storytelling and the freedom it offered him to express himself. This passion took a backseat as he pursued a career in digital marketing and branding, building a successful full-service agency, Peralta Design. But even as he focused on building his company and championing others' stories through design, his desire to create art never faded.
Now, 35 years later, Ramon has returned to his artistic roots, rekindling that early passion with a fresh perspective and an inspiring subject: his own heritage. His paintings are deeply connected to his ancestry, drawing on the rich culture, history, and beauty of the Dominican Republic. Through his art, Ramon explores themes of identity, belonging, and pride in his Dominican roots, bringing the landscapes, traditions, and faces of his heritage to life on the canvas.
This journey back to art has allowed Ramon to tap into a powerful source of inspiration, and his Dominican ancestry has provided a meaningful foundation. His works are vibrant, emotional, and rooted in personal history, bridging his lifelong passion for art with his heritage and sharing his story in a way that words never could. Ramon's return to painting is a testament to his enduring love for art, the importance of embracing one's roots and for following one’s dreams.
