In celebration of Ink and Impressions: 110 Years of the Society of American Graphic Artists at the Housatonic Museum of Art, please join us for an enlightening virtual conversation about the late printmaker, author and mentor, Ruth Leaf, who was a member of both SAGA & Atelier 17.
Christina Weyl, print scholar and author of "The Women of Atelier 17: Modernist Printmaking in Midcentury New York," will speak with Merle Perlmutter, celebrated printmaker about Ruth Leaf and her work - particularly her advances in viscosity printmaking.


Merle Perlmutter
Merle Perlmutter was born in London, England and as a child, moved to New York City. There, she studied printmaking with Ruth Leaf and painting at the Art Students League. She is the recipient of 54 awards in printmaking including a CAPS grant (New York Council on the Arts, and National Endowment for the Arts). Her work is represented in museum and university collections around the world, she has held several solo exhibitions in the US and she has participated in group shows internationally. Merle is represented in New York City by The Old Print Shop.

Christina Weyl
Christina Weyl is a New York-based curator and independent scholar whose work centers on twentieth-century printmaking, especially the contributions of women at Atelier 17. Currently, she directs The Atelier 17 Project (www.a17project.org), a non-profit organization that advocates for projects commemorating the centennial of the workshop’s founding in 1927.
