In this talk, Dr. Adam Rugg will contextualize the work of Walter Iooss against both the shifting dynamics of the sports media landscape as well as the evolving ways in which athletes are covered and represented in media. Amidst a rapidly changing industry, Iooss’ work continues to reflect the power and timelessness of sports photography and stand as a testament to the golden age of sports journalism.

Dr. Adam Rugg is the Director of the Sports Media Program as well as an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication at Fairfield University. His research focuses on examining the relationship between sport, media, and social issues, with an emphasis on major US sporting leagues. He is currently co-editing a collected anthology for NYU Press titled How to Watch Sports. His work has appeared also appeared in academic journals such as Communication & Sport, Journal of Sport and Social Issues, Journal of Broadcasting & Electronic Media, Popular Communication, and Critical Public Health.
