My Story, Our Lives: Celebrating Student Art from Bridgeport & Ukraine

Community Gallery, Third Floor, Beacon Hall, CT State Housatonic
Opening reception on Thursday, October 30th from 5:30pm - 7:00pm
“My Story, Our Lives" invites you on a visual journey through the heart of personal and cultural narratives. This display honors the art of storytelling by showcasing the compelling and diverse experiences of students in Bridgeport, CT and Ukraine taking part in our international Global Voices-ArtLink program.
Whether their pieces are beautifully rendered or simply drawn, delightful or thought-provoking, the creation of these pieces has been a journey of self-discovery. Through their work, the young artists have expressed their identities, shared their stories, and conveyed the aspects of their lives and community they treasure - or are concerned about.
As you explore the display, viewers are invited to reflect on their own story, their own journey, cultivating a deeper sense of empathy and appreciation for the multi-faceted tapestry of human experiences we are all part of.
This collection brings together diverse students from Bridgeport, CT and Ukraine, transcending political systems and geographical boundaries. We believe that art is a universal language, uniting us through the shared experiences and dreams of its young creators, promoting a common humanity that will lead to a more peaceful future.
The exhibition is supported by the Helen Frankenthaler Foundation and The Andy Warhol Foundation. We thank them for their generous support of this project. We are deeply thankful to the Bridgeport schools and students of John Winthrop School, James J. Curiale School, Bassick High School, and Black Rock School, as well as to the Ukrainian schools and students of T.H. Shevchenko Kolomyia Lyceum No5 and Stari Kuty Lyceum.
Free and open to the public.
